There are at least two TV spots that have that effect on me.
Both immediate, and slightly dramatic, I find them *so* offensive,
I hit mute as fast as possible, then switch channels to something
 else. **anything** else !

One is something about abused animals, and the other something
about children, foreign I think, but don't know. ( or care )
Both show disfigured subjects, and the opening lines appear to
be a 'how can you let this happen' sort of thing.
 Obviously, designed as tear-jerkers.

The first time, I hit mute and waited a few minutes for the spot
to end. They are l--o--n--g spots ! A couple minutes at least.
Again, I don't know. They have taught me to go away for ten
minutes or more to avoid them, if I have any interest in whatever
show is on enough to come back at all.
Sometimes, the set simply goes off for an hour, or more, or
 the rest of the day.
If that spot, or the other one, runs more than once, I'm
 definitely gone for the day.

Clearly, these spots do promote the public interest, convenience,
and necessity, inspire viewer loyalty, and deliver a mass
audience to whatever their intended market might be,
at least as far as I'm concerned.
At least these spots are inspiring me to find internet content
that I never before knew existed, so that's good. (?)

Did anyone ever mention that there *might* be something
 about content ?
 Nah.....
