Unfortunately that meant snipping the 26-pin connectors off in order to
get it through.

The other cable, however, would make a great extension... if only we had
a pinout. So I'm wondering if anyone has the pinout for a JVC 26-pin
connector? It looks like this: http://bhpho.to/1o1PbXd

------------------------------

Look in the camera's manual that the cable was used with.

an extension cable is always straight through - pin 1 to pin 1 etc.

although there are standards for the connectors, they are very loose or brand specific.

too many times i had to unsolder those multi pin round or rectangular connectors because i wired them using a sony manual only to discover that jvc used different wiring.

worse yet is the same brand useing totally different pinout's for different models.

or things like jvc camera to a sony portavcr.

the cables in the pic showed male pin's, if you are are putting on a female connector, you can use the snipped off male as a guide by looking at which wire color goes to what pin number.

shields will most likely have shrink tubing on them so be careful to make sure you have the correct center conductor colors with the correct shield - there is likely to be more then 1 black shrink tube shielded pair in the cable.

most connectors do have pin numbers molded into the connector - use a magnifier to see them and don't forget the positions on the female vs male are reversed.

hint: plug the female into the male when soldering connectors on an extension cable, the pin numbers will line up that way.

for male to male or female to female put them in a vise - side by side as the pin's are the same that way.

don't forget to mark the cable as an extension cable for (camera brand and model) to (camera control unit make and model) so someone does not try to use it on a different cam,ccu or vtr.
