Thanks for the memories.  Longer attention spans back then. 

There are many case studies in marketing pointing to memorable, enjoyable commercials that didn't sell products. The classic Alka Seltzer TV spot with Jack trying to say "Mama Mia, that's a speecy-spicy meet-a-ball." The producer says "Spicy meatballs, Jack" through the talk-back mic.  Then the door falls off the oven. Many people at the time that aired loved it and remembered it well, but when asked what product was being promoted, most said spaghetti sauce -- not Alka Seltzer.   Enjoyable, memorable -- but completely ineffective. 

Remember:  $ale$ make paychecks happen. It doesn't grow like moss on the north side of the tower.
