[BC] AM still has potential

I studied the Valcom Canadian set-up, and made over 15 phonecalls.
In a word, one lightning strike, wipes them out. Completely. I didn't get
even 50% of the owners say they were satisfied, and some were in the
process of getting rid of them!
I made the calls at the behest of a client, (religious national b'caster)
who had tower problems for a possible acquisition in Hawaii.
They walked away, and the Tropical station is still dark!

Yep, those Valcom's take up very little space, but unless you provide them
with a good set of ground radials they won't radiate well. So, while you
might be clear of tower zoning restrictions you'll still need sufficient
floor space for the ground plane. And being foreshortened I've found them
prone to radiating transmitter harmonics more readily.

A client of mine just built an AM station within the Boston city limits.
It's located on a very small piece of land owned by a construction company
in the Hyde Park neighborhood, and uses a Valcom whip antenna.
