[BC] SBE Membership

Most station mangers/owners considered SBE as an anathema to their
autocratic rule over engineering employees and their endanger their fiscal
existence. This reared its head in smaller non-union market stations. This
we know was a completely erroneous perception. This mindset  and treatment
from owners precluded my SBE membership, even though Chas Hallahan
(spelling) invited me to become a charter member of his chapter.

The SBE has merits. Deregulation (that dirty word) and loss of 1st Phone was
part of our demise. But remember, SBE membership alone does not make good
engineers. Many of us, including myself were amateur radio operators prior
to choosing our broadcasting vocation. How many of us played hooky to take
our FCC  exams?
