This mic type was on PBS yesterday. Theriman (Spelling) the music machine guy, invented such a mic and gave it to the embassy. We never figured out how it worked. I did not know RCA built these music machines (instruments) under contract with him and you will remember the sound from all those Sci Fi movies and Star Trek.
