 In my neighborhood, ATT is actively trying to force everyone onto Uverse.

 Uverse being fiber to the node, then DSL from the street node to the house.
 FIOS is being quietly abandoned as too expensive to install.
 Uverse being the "economical" advantage.
 Then, of course, if you want a phone, you gotta "bundle" it with TV.
 Want internet ? Bundle with TV.
 Don't want TV ? You can get that, but it costs about the same.

 The up side, is degraded TV, and faster web streaming.
 The down side, is a power failure, no phone, no internet, no TV.
 Unfortunately, nearly everyone is drinking the koolaid.

 Replace the ability to call for help with TV.
 That affects nearly all of the population. Trade safety for "entertainment."
 Flying ? Strip search scanner. Trade liberty for the illusion of safety.
 But, government knows best. That's why "we" elected them.
