[BC] DST for the rest of you

The railroads themselves established and implemented the five North American time zones November 18, 1883. Before this date, there was no consistent time-keeping in nearby communities, never mind across the nation.

Congress only made it official nearly 35 years later with the Standard Time Act on March 19, 1918.
This information really isn't open to speculation. It's pretty well documented.
