It's a socket for a 4cx300A--smaller socket. Don't have the book with me--tossed it in one car then drove the other car home (to add to the confusion the carpets are being cleaned tomorrow--moved a lot of surplus gear to our big building at another transmitter site)--but SK7 comes to mind as the Eimac part number for the socket. In the morning I'll call CPI (the folks who sell Eimac tubes now) to see if they have a socket.
Tom O's explanation would explain a lot. When the socket went out 15 years ago, it acted like an intermittant before it finally died. There is a bypass cap on the screen inside the IPA box--another 500 pf @5KV ceramic. I'll just change that since I have a bunch of new ones.
I have a couple of hours tomorrow morning to play before I need to move more stuff out of the way for the carpet cleaning--I'll see if I can rig up a way to measure the screen voltage--I have a couple of the front panels pulled off already, so I can probably prop the meter on a big choke in the bottom of the transmitter &clip lead the leads up to the IPA assembly. Would be nice if there was an easy way to kill the plate voltage to the final. (The HT-10, which is otherwise a lousy transmitter--has a plate supply breaker, not this old fellow.)
