 Methinks its a re-hash of the methods used to read an RFID tag (which is pretty cute, BTW).
 
This does not make a patent invalid in spite of so-called prior art. Suppose I invented a new purpose for the wheel. If it was not obvious, it could be a valid invention. Using one as a doorstop is not obvious.....
