I get decent quiet reception as long as my antennas are away from the house.
No need to drive to a deserted location in the forest.  I'm wondering where
you found where to park that was a good distance from any power lines?  My
IC-7000 through an external amplified wide band speaker makes the AM band
sound like it did back when car radios weighed in at about 25 pounds.
