certain it was being programmed properly. A few years later the station was
sold, the format was changed and it's ratings went up ! Imagine
that...playing something people wanted to hear actually made ratings go up

Sure as heck does!!
Radio GMs are a mutant species. Remember the role played by Danny Davido in
Brothers (or was it Twins)? The one who got all the bad DNA while Arnold
Schwarzenegger got all the good DNA? Many GMs (not all) I have known have
elephant-sized egos and gnat-sized brains. They distain technical issues
and put the whip to the sales force to squeeze tomato juice out of bananas.
They tend to treat engineers like the Maytag Repair Man, and constantly
press for the time they will be back on the air even when the transmitter is
still melted and smoking and the tower is laying in the back yard twisted
from a tornado, and there is no budget. Could it be the format or the
playlist or the morning man? Oh, heck no. It's the signal, stupid! (Sorry
you got me started....)
