What you CAN do royalty free is have your bands play all original music of
their own composing, or any music not registered with any of those services.
You can also do this on the air.  There are plenty of 'garage bands' around
who play their own stuff (some of it good, some of it awful).  

Question: don't you have to pay royalties when you exhibit the DIRECT TV
Music Channel at your club/restaurant?  I vaguely remember the consumer
contract saying somewhere that such a presentation was not for commercial
use.  I very well could be incorrect, but worth checking.
