The clocks were "Telechron". Considering the meaning of the Greek words 'tele' and 'chron', it is obvious concerning the meaning ot the tradename.
I have my grandparents' pink mirrored, octagonal Telechron, which still runs. They were synch'd to the 60 cps power line. I've read where power companies may be abandoning the cps timing.
The Western Union clocks were mechanical clocks battery powered and synch'd by a pulse each hour. We had one at Xavier. It is now at Media Heritage at the former VOA Bethany site, I believe.

By the 1960s most clocks had synchronous motors, locking into the 60Hz line frequency. While the freq might drift a bit, conventional clocks kept time so well (at least here in the SF Bay Area where we have Pacific Gas & Electric) that a clock need only be corrected every few days at the very most. So, why didn't stations just use WWV and conventional clocks as we did?
