I had one for years. I sold it to pay for repairs on a 1800's mantle clock. It had 2 wires for a voltage sent by Western Union. It would light the red light and bring the second hand up to 12. A 9 volt battery did fine and I had mine adjusted so well it was rarely off more than a second over a fairly long period of time. It used 2 ignition cell batteries. They still make them, and even an Alkaline version that does 50 some amps. I bet those would last forever. 2D cell alkaline batteries ( the 2 cells are in series ) would last a long time.
