I hate to admit this, but I have been that 'control freak' when I was GM of a chain of telephone answering services in NJ decades ago. I used an RF bug in the break room to hear their opinions of me. You wouldn't believe -- maybe you would -- the amount of goofing-off, deliberate vandalism, theft of office supplies, use of telephone for personal business, and all manner of other human behavior completely inappropriate for a business environment which I ran across during tenure. I became known for my surprise visits, and fired more than a few idiots on the spot and made a big point out of embarrassing the crap out of them to set an example. I was probably the most hated but respected (feared?) manager that company had. I also ran the most profitable operation they ever had, and for those who were 'with the program' there were recognition and pay rewards and promotions.
Remember: a commercial radio station is a business enterprise with a purpose, not a playground for young jerks to abuse the equipment and play music in the production studio for their own amusement. Those kinds of 'kids' (all ages up to seniors who never grew up) need to get the hang of flipping burgers at the nearby McDonalds, not working at an for-profit entertainment medium. There are too many folks out-of-work in this country for any employer to tolerate any inappropriate nonsense in the workplace because there are stacks of resumes in the files or trashcans to replace the unworthy ones. A good, loud public firing cleans the pipes and is good for the soul, AND the morale of the good employees who would admit privately: "it was well-past high-time they got rid of that a..hole."
Just my opinion, worth what you paid for it: $0.
Regards/J
