[BC] WEAM?

WEAM -was not a true intercom system either - you couldn't call out - he
could just listen in or use it as a paging system to summons you to his
office ...I remember somebody on the staff telling me - "the walls have
ears" on the second day on the job. ALSO he a had an audio feed from the
production room boards so that he could hear what people were producing in
'HIS' production rooms.

Harry had his own private entrance to his office (outside stairs), and would
come and go without anybody's knowledge at all times of the day or night.
All-in-All Harry wasn't a bad guy - just a paranoid control freak which
killed staff morale. As ratings continued to declined at this once
Washington powerhouse things got intense for the sales and programming
people. He treated me ok - respected what I did, and left me pretty much
alone. But after a year of it - I had to say so-long Harry, it was not a fun
place to work - no equipment upgrades (a lot of the equipment was shockingly
out of date for a major market station) -- just keep it running.

I jumped at the chance to leave - when Bluegrass Broadcasting's "Wild Bill
Stakelin" came knocking at my door and offered me the chief's job at WHOO
990 kHz Orlando - Now that was a FUN time and a very fun place to
be....Weekly department head meetings on the golf course! general manager,
programming, engineering and sales - a nice little foursome. I remember
being asked during the job interview - "did I play golf" - I soon learned.

At WCHA in Chambersburg, the owner, John Booth (just like the man who shot
Lincoln) had an intercom that used the ceiling speakers as microphones as
did many store-bought ones of the day.
