I never understood why people would be critical of Leonard for  
defending his patents.

Apple does it.

Nokia does it.

RIM does it.

Motorola does it, and you can bet Google will continue to defend  
Motorola patents.

Google does it.

Why is Leonard the only one who is wrong for doing it.

On the other hand Leonard was stupid.

He wanted to own the license for AM Stereo, and build and license  
stereo generators.

Motorola had absolutely no interest in building stereo generators and  
only did it because they had to.  They wanted to build chips for  
receivers.

Leonard should have gone to Motorola and licensed his patent for 10 to  
25 cents a chip.  He would have been happy building stereo generators,  
and Motorola would have been happy building chips and receivers.

We would, still today, have a very stable and good sounding ISB stereo  
system.

WMAL sounded great in stereo.
