"What the heck would a first phone have to do with it????????"

Heck, many jocks needed 3rd Class Commercial tickets in order to take the hourly transmitter meter readings, check the tower lights, and sign the log!  But that was more than a few decades ago.  Included were legendary jocks Cousin Brucie and Hi Lit.
