[BC] Netflix bandwidth requirements?

We just subscribed for the free trial month of Netflix. We have a wired DSL for which the modem reports a 1.7MB speed, and are quite successfully viewing -on a computer- with no problems. But, that is the limit, one program. No other streaming to any other computer in the house.
Netflix $7.95/month, DSL about $32. We picked up an internet phone (aka Magic Jack) two weeks ago. That actually worked even while streaming from Netflix.
We don't have any cable in our neighborhood.
I can't speak to satellite. When I looked at the plans from WildBlue or Hughes I ran away in fear of the limit. One of them releases the cap overnight, maybe with something like a Roku box you could download overnight when the cap is off?
I -suspect- that you would not be happy with VoIP via satellite with the additional delay.
