James,
The "coverage isn't what it originally was" is commonly heard these days in
reference to AM Directional's. Occasionally there is some truth to it and
certainly a Partial Proof, i.e.: 10 points along each radial between 2-10
miles, should reveal the pattern and the efficiency when compared to the
original.
But...what I have found is that the noise level on the AM Band has increased
significantly and makes reception difficult. We can blame that noise
increase on the advent of the microprocessor and other modern digital
technology.
It certainly wouldn't hurt to do a Partial...I vaguely remember the FCC
requiring a Proof every 5 years or so...
