WNBC had been Kahn stereo. None of the Kahn stuff was left behind as I'm told Andy Butler returned it to Leonard. The crossovers for Gary Blau's homemade airchain did get saved (complete with "WNBC Audio Processor" engraved in them) have been returned to Gary :)
There probably is no credence with the MW/317 story and Imus, but it made for good water cooler fodder.
One funny Imus story happened in 2004. We received a phone call from a representative at his ranch in New Mexico. Imus was on vacation and not in New Mex (a rare event) and the woman on the phone was frantic. A field agent had gained access to the compound and was requesting that she shut off the FM transmitter that was carrying WFAN's programming. She didn't know anything about the transmitter and neither did we! Apparently this "low power" rig carried more than a few miles ;)
