CONELRAD, stood for CONtrol of ELectromagnetic- RADiation, which assigned
stations on the frequencies of 640 & 1240 with coverage overlap of 2 to 1
fields to synchronize coverage for emergency notification. Later on in the
late 1950's the term "pseudo -synchronous-sequential signal switching was
employed. The Greatest problem with CONELRAD was the fact that after a half
days heating in the old tube type boxes, it was very difficult if not
impossible to get the transmitters to come back up on the air without some
sort of component failure.
