Does anyone of you braintrust folks have experience in tracking down
slipping connections on the loading mechanism in a Harris HT3.5 transmitter?
The knob on the front of the transmitter is connected thru two u joints and
bevel gears to a slider that controls loading, and I can't figure out where
the slippage is occurring, after numerous trips between front and back of
the transmitter. I think I narrowed it down to the most inaccessible
place-- a bracket on the side of the PA cavity--but I can't see or feel any
hex setscrews on the shaft connections there.
Also, there's a procedure in the manual to adjust IPA reflected power by
moving a combination of the front panel multimeter switch and a rotary
switch on the transmitter controller card, but I get no reflected power
reading--- a blown diode in the directional coupler, maybe. Of course when
this problem cropped up my Bird wattmeter was at home a hundred miles away.
