Presently, do not worry. Nobody is going to turn off the Internet or even sub-nets. For some time, both IPV4 and IPV6 have been running alongside each other. Although system integrators may try to sell you new Ethernet boards or even computers, ignore them, as they are opportunists preying on misinformation. IP packets are contained inside Ethernet packets so the hardware will continue to work although the actual data payload will be reduced because of the increased IPV6 header size.
Just as you seldon have to type 173.194.75.99 as an IP address, you should seldom have to type 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334, a typical IPV6 address. Instead, you would just type www.google.com and let the name-servers handle the nasty details.
Routers will generally be repaced with IPV6 routers as the old ones become obsolete. Routers generally do as much as possible in hardware so there will be a change here. However, presently they are designed to handle both kinds of message packets.

It rolls out today (according to Google)...but here's my question and
fear about it.
It's been handy to carry around in my head our ftp and a couple of other
IP addresses.
