I don't think there is a conspiracy here. I think we all know all too
well radio owners will do anything for a buck, and most will not leave
money on the table even if it involves programming they don't
personally enjoy.
I've met a lot of left leaning owners who happily air Rush etc and
enjoy the profits. Some would argue Rush is always on the best
signal, but in several markets Clear Channel pulled that show and
placed it on their own inferior signal and still did well with it.
We've seen repeated efforts of progressive stations that fail. MSNBC
& CNN's ratings are low. The country has been about equally divided
and polarized for a while. So we know the people are out there. My
conclusion is, right-leaning folks prefer these shows on the radio &
Fox news, and left leaning folks just don't prefer this type of media.
I think they are more into John Stewart and the internet.
I'm not trying to imply one group is better than the other, just that
in general they prefer to get their information in different ways.
