If a studio is that critical, two of everything should be used. That
extends to UPS's and associated power systems as well. It boggles my
mind when I see a million dollar plant and a single UPS.
This why my new studio complex has the whole TOC and studios in
switching power strips and parallel UPS's/power systems. If one UPS
should fail, everything fails to the other one standing with no down
time. Both are running at about 40% name plate capacity.
The only other option would be to use switching power strips and then
fail over to a generator panel. But then you loose all protection when
that occurs. But at least the event doesn't kill your operation.
We used Giest switched rack mount strips. UL listed and no fussing
around. We've tested them and computers stay up when we simulate a
power interruption at the UPS.
Our new 16KVA Single phase UPS's are Legacy Power's Herytage series.
Updated FERRUPS design. Legacy are the same folks who started BEST and
sold to Eaton(Powerware).
