Really off the wall. Is it possible to reseat the final tube in the socket 90 or 180 degrees from its present orientation and see if it makes any difference?

I once had a transmitter under my care where changing the orientation of the tube in the socket made a big difference. 

It was not a BE, but you did say you had run out of logical things to try...
