[BC] UPS hell

No, not the package delivery company.

A week ago Sunday one of my clients called me with a radio station off the
air. The problem turned out to be a UPS that was stone cold dead. It was
clearly an electronic problem not a dead battery. And while the ops
manager was looking at it, another one right next to it died, taking
another station off the air. Same symptoms.

This morning a third UPS at the same location died, taking out the office
file server and a backup AudioVault server. Same symptoms.

These units are all Powerware 5125's, and all appear to be about eight
years old. There are three more still running, but we are concerned that
they are all going to fail.

I've heard of planned obsolescence, but I've never seen anything like
this. Have any of y'all?

They also have two Best Ferrups 3.1's of unknown condition that have never
been used because they appear to require 220v (twist-lock plugs, but no
indication on the units that they are wired for 220).
