With the height and flat land the radio horz. Is some 40 miles out!

The CBR FM antennas on Sears Tower only have one lobe, radiation from some
part of which is directed at depression angles reaching the earth much
closer than 1/2 mile, if there are no path obstructions.

The peak of the elevation plane main lobe is directed toward the radio
horizon.
