Tom is referring to the late WLNG 1600 in Sag Harbor. It, and WQQW 1590
Waterbury CT, were taken dark so WWRL could up day power to 25 kW. WLNG
had a nice signal into Southern RI during the day.
The 1370 I was Chief Engineer of had its 110 foot tower and ground
system in Wickford Cove. Being a tidal cove, the 500 watt licensed power
was calculated for mean tide. The MW-1A hated the high and low tides, and
would go into SWR trips. The signal, though, would be heard well out on
Cape Cod, and a Portuguese-language program, based in Fall River MA, was
a regular part of Sundays.
