I follow a forum which has wide-ranging subjects. This contribution was

That digital radio thing is one of my betes noires.

We've got about a dozen transistor radios dotted about the place.
They're all used, some more than others. I bought one of those digital
radios, but like G-CPTN's it was useless. I gave it to elder daughter,
who also pronounced it useless and binned it. Apart from not picking up
much, and what it did being of awful sound quality, it ate batteries at
a scary rate.

Hopefully OfCom won't get round to killing off proper broadcast radio
before I shuffle off. They have said that they won't do it till over 50%
of the population have digital radios. I think that means "one digital
radio which may or may not work" in each household.

So, folks, tell everyone not to buy a digital radio (or accept one as a
gift!).
