I don't want to drift the thread to a Station Log discussion. Let me simply state that the Station Log is a much larger "document" than simply a place where entries for EAS, tower light inspections, communications with the FAA/NOTAM data, and the weekly DCO certification are made. Further, the Maintenance Log as defined in the rules is a component of the Station Log. It is not a log unto itself. The term Station Log is singular and all encompassing. There is no other "log" from an FCC perspective.
This is very different than a generic maintenance log err...record for everything from changing the TX's hydronic cooling system water filter to blowing dust out of the GM's printer. But be very careful about what you place in this record as anything relevant to the station's legal operation could be needed at counsel's direction. Supplying the whole record of everything done would shine light on places management likely doesn't want shown.
In the case of Dale's misadventure with the inspector, this is the precise reason we title the documents with the specific title of the function. If it's the Station Log, it says so. No ambiguity. In fact, I believe there is a requirement for that title to be on the paper document. Not EAS Log or Tower Lights Log. It's the Station Log.
As an aside, the inspector's I've conversed with over the years can tell a well run operation in about 30 seconds. If the staff knows where the documents are located, readily able to present them, the document's format is well thought out, and subsequently filled-in properly, they're less likely to keep digging. This is there a KISS Station Log document pays dividends.
