However, if you don't run stereo, you can run another subcarrier (SCA).
I worked for one of the last DC stations to go stereo. They had Muzak
at 53 kHz. They moved them up to 67 kHz, then Muzak moved to WWDC-FM,
DC-101, so they were gone when I got there.
It always made me laugh that the acid rock station was also the Muzak
station.
Still, if extra revenue is important, and you can find the paying
clients, subcarriers can pay well. At one station, I had two
subcarrier clients at $12,000 a month each. It paid the engineering
budget, and ***I*** brought them on board and negotiated the contracts.
I believe THOSE days are over, but a few grand doesn't hurt.
