> Good job by KGMB/KHNL, which was the first on air
I watched KHNL/KGMB all morning online from Mississippi.
Pago Pago got hit several hours before Hawaii. Surge was 2.2 feet,
which was minimal. But frightened residents headed for the hills,
the memory of the Sept. 29 tsunami still fresh in their minds.
On the downside, the imbeciles at the American Samoa Power Authority
cut-off power to most of the island an hour before the scheduled
tsunami arrival time. This knocked all the radio and TV stations off
air, as well as killing power to most residents. KKHJ stayed on-air
at low power, but in the hour before the tsunami hit, we were unable
to get the word out to most of the island because of an asinine decision
by some bone-headed doofus at the power company.
