I have to defend one network. From the beginning we decided at the 
WOR Radio Network that our processing would be very gentle. We'd let 
the stations determine their own sound, good or bad, but they had a 
clean feed to work with. We got a lot of compliments for that from 
people who heard the raw feed. I wish we had been stereo. I've always 
believed that stereo is great for Talk, particularly with interviews. 
A host with two guests would be perfect with the host in the middle 
and each guest panned slightly to the right and left. Not hard left 
or right. Just enough to position them on the radio. Unfortunately, 
now we'd have to pan them the right and far right.
