Yep.
That's an old CRL trick.
I simply removed the entire output stage of the compellor-the stage before it
was a differential one-and stuck a 5532 in there to provide the necessary
current to drive a 600 ohm load. In the newer Compellors, Aphex went to a 5532
based output stage exclusively.

If my memory isn't totally out-to-lunch. . .
There was a problem in some CRL boxes (two that were at client
stations of mine) that puts glitches on the audio waveform - near,
but not at, the baseline - because the full-wave-rectifier opamp
is driven directly from the audio path. I think I figured out
that inserting a unity-gain buffer between the audio path and
the input to the f.w.r. opamp got rid of the glitches.
