I had the CRL AM-4 system on 1280 WANS in the mid 80's.  When I took the 4-band compressor out of the circuit and ran only the AGC and the Limiter, it sounded fabulous!  No bypass, wire it out of the system.  The PEP section is the problem.

1300 WCKI's audio is NASTY due to the grungy audio processing. I gripe
about the CRL AM-4 setup every meeting, but so far it has done no good.
The Armstrong Transmitter itself does not sound bad.
