[BC] Poor Reception Areas

In April 1994 I spent a few days on the Upper Peninsula of
Michigan in Ishpeming. During the day I could hear only a
couple local AM stations and at night the skywave signals
were very weak. Could it be all the iron in the ground that
makes this area so poor for AM reception?

When I was there the big story was that the ice on Lake
Superior was breaking up. The lake had been conpletely
frozen over that year.
