Doesn't the DVD player have composite video out?
Mine do. If so, and if you can find the specs to verify, then the
output IS NTSC, 1 V P-P composite video. Mine are even specified at 75
ohms termination. Simple RCA to BNC adapter does the trick. Doesn't
get much less expensive than that!
You would want a frame-sync TBC after it - either before or after the
switcher (after, and the switcher can be a bang-box...), just to insure
the sync and burst meet spec... at least for long-term use.
I haven't actually looked at the output of mine in a while with a scope
/ waveform monitor in a while, and don't recall just how close the black
burst part of the waveform comes to meeting FCC / NTSC spec.
