Jim:

I did not see your original post about broadcasting, etc. This is sad to
see coming, but it seems the most effective, and consumer friendly way to
transition over to digital broadcasting. I relly love high power RF and working
with transmitters, studying them (both new and old) and the thought that
they may be someday shut down, is a true heartbreaker for me.

Fact is, WiFi and cellular is "cool" to young people, and if they become
interested in radio broadcasting again, it will be because they can get it on
their cellphone, Ipod or now Ipad. It's just too hard for our industry to
develop enough interest in regular radio to make consumers want to research it
enough to but an HD radio instead of a new cellphone.

I truly hope that it turns out that I'm totally wrong, and soaking wet with
heavy water. There has been no time in my life where I've wanted so
desperately to be wrong as I am now with regard to 4G taking place of our existing
RF network. We'll see. Am FM radio has been a huge part of my life, and it's
almost like it's a member of my family. I may rant here about my dislike
for the formats, creativity, etc., but I still love radio regardless.
