I said this in my original post. If you can get the broadcasters to lighten
up on the processing without passing a law, they go ahead. You apparently
missed my point that if audio quality is the apparent reason for the loss
of
radio audience, we can fix that by improving what we have.
I'm all for rolling out some kind of digital radio system, speaking
entirely as an engineer. The reality is that the consumers are not
interested.
The cellular/WiFi providers will solve the problem for us; both the digital
transmission side, and the receiver side. As I said before, a two year old
cellphone is a fossil to most consumers. So a "cellphone" or a "radio" that
will hear digital broadcast will be very easy to push onto the consumer
when
they renew their contract. All of this will happen without the consumer
needing to concern themselves with the details of the technology.
It's too much work for a consumer to consider an HD radio. Many stores
don't have them set up so you can listen to the radio. Most consumers, in
their
desire not get screwed, will walk on by and purchase of a XM subscription;
it's easier and more to convenient for them.
So we can twiddle our thumbs while the RF side of our business gets taken
over. Ultimately, there will be no room for our studio side either. Or, we
can do some consumer research and find something that the consumer wants,
that
we can deliver better, cheaper, and more conveniently than the cell
companies.
