No, I remember what tones they're talking about -

The one was definitely near 1 kHz; the other may have been as low as 300 
or 400 Hz.

nowhere near subaudible.

And in 2-way land, anything under 300 Hz is "subaudible" - the CTCSS 
tones, forex, are as high as 150 Hz.
