After the US government gets rid of all the terrestrial navigation equipment, the space-based assets will be so important that they will go to war to claim it all. Just watch.
Getting rid of LORAN will put submarines at risk. They need to update their INS equipment periodically and GPS does not work under water. I can hear it now -some Admiral at the Pentagon; "Oops! I forgot about them..."

The Port Clarence tower was in terrible shape. Alaska LORAN is no
more. I believe the Attu station is still operating as part of the
Japan chain. Stations that rolled there own power costs a huge amount
of money to run. Saint Paul Island was a megawatt.
I was on Saint Paul Island when Loran there shut down a few months ago.
One of the civilian employees had been there since the start of
operation. It was the master station for the NORPAC chain.
