Taking something that you used to use, reducing the value of leased property, substituting inferior goods, etc., is called "conversion." They took something of value from you, even tough you didn't own it --only leased it.

Check with your station lawyer. A "lawyer letter" may get your UPS back.

I called Verizon to complain that the battery backup for my T1 between 
the studio and transmitter was not working at the transmitter end. The 
repair guy came out, removed the battery backup and said goodbye. He 
said that Verizon no longer provides backup power for their equipment at 
the customer premises. I was on my own.
I guess the telcos are getting out of the power business.
