Sorry, but no.  It is STILL up to the Pilot In Command to avoid  
obstructions.

That is why med-evacs are done the way they are.  Many times an  
ambulance is used to move the injured person to a school, or similar  
location to be moved to the helicopter.  A football field is a great  
place to land at night.

MANY departments have people trained to look for lines and such for  
landing zones.  They have lights and even NDBs to bring them in safely.

Landing at night without any direction is just STUPID.

When I took my initial flight training at age 15 around 1969 or 70, I  
heard a joke.  If you are making an off-field emergency landing at  
night, you fly into the wind and at about 200 feet Above Ground Level,  
turn on the landing light.

If you like what you see, land.

If you don't, turn off the landing light.
