Yes-and that's done on purpose to (successfully) discourage using aftermarket
radios. Car radios are a HUGE markup item for car manufacturers & their
dealers-and they want all that gravy $$ for themselves.

My '96 Escort has the A/C, heater, ventilation and fan controls built into the
car radio bezel, which sucks because the car radio is a cassette and to
replace it with a CD will cost almost $400.00.
