Years ago ther was an article in one of the broadcast technical magazines on the "Spherics Meter".

I remember seeing them in mostly smaller radio stations. Something similiar was manufactured for the aircraft radio industry. As I recall they used a LF receiver between 300 and 500 kcs. and coupled the audio to a 5 In meter with a 0-10 scale on it and it had the 7-10 area underlined in red, the 5-7 area underlined in orange. It is my recollection that the low frequency receiver was very sensitive to lightning abd static build up in the area atmosphere. When the meter was hanging steady in the 7-10 area there was a goo change of being struck by lightning and very severe thunderstorms.

Does anyone else recall this article or device?
