[BC] when you had to bunk at the station

The CE before me at WLKW lived at the AM transmitter for years. There was a
small efficency apartment in the back with a stove, sink and refrigerator all
in one-and the bathroom had a sink and shower (and hot water). He saved
enough money living there that he was able to buy two apartment tenements.

Is there anyone here that worked in the biz back when at least one
real live person had to be at the transmitter site full time and
maybe have some good stories to relate? When did they get rid of the
requirement?
