I'm told that they make refineries to survive in refinery environments. This is apparently not true for radio transmitters and radio towers.

...??? So, why didn't the refinery fall apart within a week from the same H2S?

We have oil wells by the barrel-full here, and some have been in place  
for probably 50-60 years, and none of the H2S stacks have fallen over  
that I'm aware of. I'll ask my niece's cousin about this, he works on  
'em.

I'm inclined to not believe that this is the reason for this  
particular transmitter/tower failure. Sorry.
